Mike Butler

Follow: “Your Mission is..” Continuing this week with the Sermon on the Mount, Pastor Butler speaks to us from Matthew 5:13-16 and the mission of being Salt and Light as we follow Jesus. Join us Sundays at 9 and 10:30am at CrossPointe. For more information please visit www.crosspointe.tv or call us at 405 329-0823.

Matthew 5:13-16, NIV 2011 13 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. 14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Your mission is to be the alternative.

John Stott, The Radical Disciple “Here then is God’s call to a radical discipleship, to a radical non-conformity to the surrounding culture. It is a call to develop a Christian counterculture, a call to engagement without compromise.”

Your mission is to have the answer.

Eugene Peterson, “...As people heard Jesus tell these stories, they saw at once that they weren’t about God, so there was nothing in them threatening their own sovereignty. They relaxed their defenses. They walked away perplexed, wondering what they meant, the stories lodged in their imagination. And then, like a time bomb, they would explode in their unprotected hearts. An abyss opened up at their very feet. He was talking about God; they had been invaded!”

Your mission is to be the proof that Jesus lives.

Your mission is to remember you can fail.

Matthew 12:33-37, NIV 2011 33 “Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit. 34 You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. 35 A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him. 36 But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. 37 For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.”

  1. We can fail by taking center stage.

  2. We can fail by letting fear take over.

  3. We can fail by losing sight of priorities.

  4. We can fail by forgetting our mission.
