Neighbor: Open Door

Mike Butler

The Good News is about how God has transformed our lives through Jesus. As the Church, we are called to build a new community or neighborhood that reflects this transformation. This week, Pastor Butler continues the series Neighbor: Living out a Christ-Centered LIfe with a message entitled “Open Door”.

Reminder:

Welcome Mat = Jesus

God is honored when our love is real.

Neighbor = anyone God puts in our path.

We will welcome neighbors when we,

  1. Check our hearts.

  2. Invite conversations that will challenge us.

  3. Make room for them in our lives.

1 Corinthians 13:1-7, NIV 2011 'If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. '

An open door says to our neighbors, you are welcome here.

An open door says to our neighbors, I am a student of life too.

An open door says to our neighbors, I am learning to keep a short list.

An open door says to our neighbors, you are safe here.
